We invite periodontists to participate in the PAAS study, a randomized clinical trial assessing the effectiveness of adjunctive antibiotics in treating periodontal disease. Each participating practice will recruit 16 to 22 patients with periodontitis, totaling 544 patients. Patients will be randomly assigned to receive either scaling and root planing (SRP) plus adjunctive antibiotics or SRP plus a placebo. The antibiotics used are Metronidazole 500 mg and Amoxicillin 500 mg, administered every 8 hours for 10 days. The study aims to address antibiotic stewardship and provide evidence-based guidance on antibiotic use in periodontal disease treatment. Your participation will contribute to advancing periodontics, and practitioners will receive compensation of up to $5,500 for enrolling the target sample size.

More information about the study can be found on the Official Study Page.

If you are interested in participating, please contact us via email at nationaldpbrn@uab.edu or by using our Contact Us form.

A research coordinator will reach out to guide you through the next steps. Your involvement in this study can help shape clinical decision-making and enhance the science and practice of periodontics. Join us in this important research endeavor to benefit your profession and patients.
