The Southern Academy

of Periodontology

Since our formation in 1920, the Southern Academy has played an integral part in the progression of our specialty. We are considered to be the premier regional periodontal society in the country, representing the ten states of the Southeast. Our leaders carry a strong voice within the American Academy of Periodontology, and our society as a whole plays an important role in the continuing evolution of the practice of periodontics.

We are easy to join.

There is no initiation fee to join the Academy.

Two-day, continuing education winter seminars are held in Atlanta or Charlotte in January.

Four-day summer annual meetings and CE courses convene at premier, family-friendly resorts in June.

Internationally recognized speakers headline each meeting.

We are state of the art.

Annual Billy M. Pennel Competition supports the research efforts of the residents in our region.

Professional networking and mentoring with like-minded periodontists are key advantages of membership.

The District III Caucus allows us to keep abreast of the activities and agendas of the American Academy of Periodontology.

Our website and PerioSouth News are valuable resources to our members. They provide timely news and information about the organization as well as upcoming events. Our website also allows for online meeting registration and dues payments.

We are family oriented.

Our Summer Annual Meetings are at premiere destinations with activities for the whole family.

Each year, we renew friendships in the exhibit halls, on the beaches, the tennis courts, and the golf courses.

Many of our members grew up as youngsters within the organization and are now practicing peers in our Academy.
